By Vice President Joseph Oliver
September 23, 2023

In the afternoon of September 23, 2023, Riverhead Ambulance was promptly dispatched to respond to a car fire adjacent to a residential property. Upon our arrival, the situation escalated rapidly as the nearby garage had ignited and, within minutes, the entire house was fully engulfed in flames.

Riverhead Fire Department, along with other surrounding departments, displayed exceptional teamwork and professionalism as they worked tirelessly to suppress the fire and prevent further damage and harm. Mutual aid and support were provided by Flanders Ambulance, West Hampton Ambulance, East Quogue Fire Department, Northwell First Responder, and Manorville Ambulance. These agencies were instrumental in covering the Riverhead Ambulance district and standing by at the fire scene in case of any injuries, ensuring the safety and well-being of all involved.

Unfortunately, one firefighter needed medical attention during this incident but was treated promptly on the scene and subsequently released, having sustained no severe injuries.

We, at Riverhead Ambulance, are profoundly thankful to our neighboring agencies for their immediate response and support during our time of need. The collaborative effort exhibited by all units on the scene is a testament to the unity and resilience of our emergency services community.

We would also like to extend our heartfelt commendation to the Riverhead Fire Department and their mutual aid departments for their steadfast dedication and exceptional job in managing and mitigating the fire. Their quick and efficient response undoubtedly averted further tragedy.

We recognize that such incidents are harrowing for the residents, and we extend our deepest sympathies to those affected. The community's safety remains our top priority, and we are committed to working collaboratively to protect and serve those in need.
